Davin Carey, financial planning consultant for Oxnard-based Carey and Hanna Tax and Wealth Planners and resident of Westlake Village, has been named to the City of Thousand Oaks investment committee. Alongside incumbent John Short III and new appointee Anthony Gonzalez, Carey will advise the City Council on investment decisions and serve a two-year term ending December 2023.
“My family and I love living in the Thousand Oaks community, and I consider it a great privilege to consult on the City’s investment opportunities,” Carey said. “California has a unique real estate market, thriving industries and special tax considerations that could affect the committee’s financial recommendations, and I look forward to helping the Council make wise decisions to improve where thousands of people live, work and play.”
After a stint as a child actor, Carey’s passion shifted to the world of investing and finance. As a sophomore at San Diego State University, Carey bought his first of many investment properties, which he occupied as a student before renting to peers. After graduating with a degree in Real Estate Finance and completing licensing certifications for real estate, financial services and insurance, he joined the tax and accounting firm started by his father and grandfather. Under Carey’s vision, direction and leadership the firm shifted to focus on financial planning and wealth management – substantially growing the number of clients served and its revenue as a result.
Since 2016, Carey has ranked among the top Financial Professionals affiliated with the Avantax Wealth Management® broker-dealer out of more than 3,000 Financial Professionals nationwide. In 2020, he was tapped to join the Avantax team as Regional Vice President, working to expand across Southern California its model of helping CPA firms and tax professionals add holistic financial planning to their services. Carey is a Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisor and the youngest ever to qualify for the Avantax President’s Advisor Council. He lives in the North Ranch area of Westlake Village with his wife, Lindsay, and their children Luke and Arielle.
